Servius Tullius
Servius Tullius was one of the greatest kings after Romulus. Roman historicians say
that he built the town walls and introduced a great reform to limit the political
influence of the nobles. He divided the citizens into three classes, according to their
wealth. In this way the ancient noble families lost their privileges, because they had
to share the power with the rich people who were not noble.
He also died tragically. Another Tarquinius, nephew of Prisco, first accused him of being an unlawful ruler hoping that the people could dethrone him, but having failed in his purpose, he killed Servius and proclaimed himself king.
