Tiberio

After the death of Augustus, Tiberio, his step-son, was elected Emperor by the people and by the Senate and he ruled from 14 to 37 a.D.
He began to surround him with excessive luxory, he built a magnificent house on the Palatine from where, together with his ministers, he ruled the Empire. He was a wise administrator paying attention to respect, at least formally, the republican institutions.
Towards the end of his life he began to fear cospiracy and he started to persecute the nobles. Late in life he felt the need of a quiet life and retired to Capri where he died in an atmosphere of terror.
